Government Closes, Exchanges Open

And in other news… the new health insurance exchanges are open for business today. Who would have thought that on October 1st, 2013, the launch of the new health insurance marketplace would not be the top story of the day?

Yes, the government is officially closed after the Democrats and Republicans failed to agree on a spending bill. The issue, of course, is Obamacare – the Republicans want it defunded or at least delayed while the Democrats are unwilling to compromise on this issue. And so we have a standoff.

But the fact that the government is closing its doors doesn’t impact the exchanges – proving many doubters wrong, they are opening ON TIME today.

And that means that your HPA private exchange site suddenly has millions of new prospects – Americans who will qualify for and benefit from the premium tax credits and cost sharing subsidies promised by the Affordable Care Act.

We’ll be providing updates all week to let you know how it’s going. Good luck on day 1 – go make some sales!
