Government shutdown could cause more bad info

Pretty much everyone in the insurance industry has spent much of the last three-and-a-half years frustrated at the incorrect, incomplete, or complete lack of information about the ACA provided by HHS, Treasury, and the DOL.

Sure, they have a difficult job to do – we all recognize that. In fact, the Affordable Care Act says “the Secretary shall” more than a thousand times. Congress left a LOT of the dirty work – writing all of the rules & regulations to implement the provisions of the law – to the big 3 government agencies.

Well now those agencies have another excuse for the misinformation: the government shutdown. It appears that keeping the consumer info sites up-to-date isn’t an “essential government function”. For example:

So be careful when relying on these government sites for the information you need to advise your clients – they may or may not be up-to-date.

Silver Lining: The good news? HPA partners were smart enough to find a non-government solution for their clients, and nobody here is being furloughed. We’ll continue to do our best to provide you with the info you need to maintain and grow your business in the months to come.
