In what has to be the weirdest news story of the day (it’s not even close), Healthwatch, the Hill’s Healthcare Blog, is reporting that “Covered California, Enroll America and other exchanges will livestream an ObamaCare-themed variety show from Los Angeles on Thursday.” Seriously?
The six-hour – yes, SIX HOUR – program “is designed to feature prominently on social media sites and contains viral content urging people to shop for ObamaCare coverage.” Among the participants will be the comedy video website Funny or Die, and the event will air live on YouTube and on the campaign’s website.
On December 31st, HPA made some predictions about 2014. We’d like to amend the list to add this prediction to it: this attempt to get young people to enroll will not work. It’ll be like cereal commercials that show parents rapping to try to get their kids to eat a nutritious but untasty breakfast. What a bad idea.
As you can imagine, a number of readers have weighed in with comments. Here’s our favorite one: I can’t even imagine my kids in their early 20s, my nieces and nephews, or ANY of their friends tuning into this drivel. What a colossal and monumental waste of taxpayer money!
Can you imagine a group of health insurance agents getting together to put on a six-hour variety show to attract prospects? We’ll answer that: no, you can’t. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any weirder…
